Start reading Greek from zero

Short lessons with audio, explained in English. For people who live in Cyprus or Greece, or are about to move there.

How it works

We start with the alphabet and build up to everyday Greek, level A1 and then A2. You learn standard Modern Greek: the Greek of forms, signs and the doctor’s surgery.

No guessing what to learn next

Open the app and the next lesson is waiting. Everything comes in order: the alphabet, reading, then the A1 topics. Stopped halfway through a lesson? You pick up where you left off.

Read your first words in 5 minutes

Nine Greek letters read just like English ones, so you start with those. Then we spend the time on the traps: Η says ee, not h, and Ρ says r, not p. Lessons are short enough to finish while you wait in a queue.

Lesson: nine Greek letters that read like English ones, each with its sound

Real conversations from the start

Scenes from life in Cyprus: a first call, meeting a neighbour, a family photo on the fridge. You read first, then hear how it sounds. Tap a word you don’t know to see what it means.

Dialogue: Anna greets κυρία Ελένη, lines in Greek and a pause button

Words that stay with you

Words from the lessons go into your word bank. When a word is due for review, the app brings it back by itself: a couple of short workouts a day and a warm-up before each lesson.

Word bank: “3 more sessions”, words grouped by when they come back for review

Texts you will actually meet

Forms, notes and messages. In the first unit you fill in a form about yourself in Greek, the kind you meet at the doctor’s or the town hall.

Lesson: Anna’s form in Greek with her name, nationality, city, address, phone and job

Handwriting checked by photo

Write by hand and take a photo of the page. AI marks the mistakes right on the photo and explains each one. The check is paid for with coins: the app shows the cost before it starts, and your first coins are a gift when you sign in.

Handwriting check: mistakes marked in the text, an accent mistake shown on the photo of the page and explained

A check at the end of every unit

Each unit ends with a short test, and you can make up to three mistakes. That way you know the topic has really stuck before you move on.

Unit check: two lives out of three, the audio played 0 of 2 times and the question “What colour is Danai’s hair?”

See when you will finish

Set a daily goal, and your profile shows the date you will reach A1 at that pace, next to a chart of the lessons you have done.

Profile: the forecast “A1 by 17 November” with a goal of 2 lessons a day, and a chart of finished lessons

Learn with friends

Send a friend a link and see who finished how many lessons this week. It is harder to give up that way.

Friends: this week’s ranking, with each person’s lessons and the days they studied

And also

  • Learn from mistakes. Tasks you got wrong come back at the end of the lesson.
  • A goal for the day. The home screen shows how many lessons are left for today.
  • Hints. A short explanation after every answer: for example, that δ is the “th” of “this”, not a d.
  • Spotted a mistake? Every slide has a flag: tap it, tell us what is wrong, and we will fix it.
  • No sign-up. You only need an account to save your progress, invite friends and check your handwriting.

What you will learn

  • read and write Greek
  • say hello and goodbye
  • introduce yourself
  • say where you live and what languages you speak
  • fill in a form
  • understand numbers and phone numbers
  • talk about your family
  • say how old someone is and what they look like

Downloaded lessons work offline. Every explanation is in English.

Your path

Start for free: learn the alphabet and read your first words. If you like it, open the Path to A2, where the A1 lessons are. New units are added to the same Path.

  1. The basics
    Free

The alphabet in capitals and small letters, stress, the sounds English doesn’t have, greetings and a first call. No sign-up needed.

The Path to A2 is not a subscription: when it is on sale, it is a one-time purchase that stays yours, and new lessons join it at no extra cost. The app shows the current price or offer before you pay.

The handwriting check by photo runs on AI, so it is paid separately, with coins. The app shows how many coins a check costs before it starts, and if a check fails, the coins come back. Coins never expire.

Who it is for

For anyone starting from zero who wants to understand what is written and said around them.

  • You live in Cyprus You want to read signs and forms and talk to your neighbours and your doctor.
  • You are moving to Greece You want to arrive already able to read what is around you.
  • Your family is Greek You want to read a menu, a message or a birthday card on your own.
